Other informationAlthough it is only 25 minutes into Whangarei, the next town, and 10 minutes into Ngunguru, the next settlement, this place offers total privacy and peace. This property is of high ecological significance, apart from the small residential area the whole land is covered in beautiful, mature native forest. We have the rare Northland Brown Kiwis living and breading in close proximity of the house. At night they can be heard calling and we frequently see them in the garden. There are also many other native birds in abundance, as well as the rare Tree Weta and other magnificent insects. For these reasons this property is absolutely not suited for pet owners. The marina in Tutukaka, a 15 minutes drive away, is the gateway to Poor Knights Islands which offer world class diving. From here it is just a day trip by sailing boat to the Bay of Islands or the Great Barrier Island. In fact this part of New Zealand is a spectacular playground for people interested in any kind of water sports, from sailing, surfing, diving, fishing, to kayaking. There is a big community of underwater photographers. In Tutukaka there are 3 restaurants and 2 bars, as well as various hotels and motels. The population on this coast consists mostly of life-stylers, of which many are Europeans and Americans. There are many yachties and ex-yachties, who have arrived by boat and stayed for good. Life in general is pretty quiet out here. There are many creative people around, as well as passionate environmentalists. Gardening is very popular in NZ, as things can be grown all year round. For people who like physical exercise, there is a small outdoor gym. A beautiful walk along the bush, with stunning views over the coast, starts right by the gate. The whole property is designed for low maintenance, as we travel frequently. Price: NZ$850,000 |
